I am trying to locate other people in my area of the city who would be interested in meeting for coffee first thing each morning to discuss the day's events/challenges. I think having a support group and a place to go each morning will help on days when the desire to stay in bed outweighs the motivation to get to the office. The growth of home-based businesses in North America has led to more offices being carved out of residential space.

When Yuill McGregor bought his house near Toronto's trendy Annex area 15 years ago, he chose the unfinished basement as the operations centre for his design-build business because "it was the least desirable" part of the house "for human habitation." He then spent "quite a large amount of money" renovating it into a home office that provides a highly workable space for a staff of four. By paying attention to some basic tenets of good design, McGregor says he has managed to adapt a small area-about 300 square feet-so that it can "function properly" as a workplace.
