E-Mail Fraud

Detect and defend against e-mail fraud.

Rogers takes your online security very seriously and we are committed to keeping your private information safe. As a member of the Fraud Prevention Forum (FPF), we want to remind you to exercise caution when conducting online activities.

Phishing/Brand Spoofing, the most common form of online fraud, involves sending fake e-mail messages tricking people into providing personal information (username, passwords, and credit card details, etc.), for the purpose of committing identity theft and/or other crimes.

As Phishers evolve, they find new ways to deceive unsuspecting people, even using corporate logos, colours, and legal disclaimers to make it appear as though the fake e-mail and website are real. Still, recognizing phony e-mails and knowing how to proceed are key steps you can take to protect yourself.

Signs Your E-mail Message May be Spoof

  • Generic message greetings, such as “Dear customer or member…”
  • Prompts to “update,” “validate,” or “confirm” your account information
  • Misspelled or incorrect website address (URL)
  • Requests for immediate action. For example, “Your account will be suspended within 24 hours, if you don’t respond….”
  • Spelling errors

Protect your PC
  • Install and keep your PC security tools and software up-to-date
  • A personal firewall - and keep it turned on
  • Update your Operating System, including regular browser and system updates
  • Use anti-spyware, anti-virus and anti-phishing and anti-span software:
  • Internet Explorer 7 users should enable the built-in "Anti-Phishing" filter
  • Rogers Hi-Speed Internet customers can get online protection tools for free
Protect your privacy from phishing
