Card reader & Tap-to-Pay issues

If your Clover device isn’t reading cards or Tap-to-Pay isn’t working, use these steps to get things working again.

Fix CardReading issues

If cards aren’t reading:

  1. Gently clean the chip reader slot with a soft, dry cloth.
  2. Make sure NFC (tap) is turned on:
  • Go to Settings
  • Select Network
  • Select NFC / Tap-to-Pay

- If you still get a Card Read Error, try a different card or manually key the transaction.

Improve device performance

If the device feels slow, clear the app cache.

  1. Go to Settings → Device Info → Sto.
  2. Select Apps → choose any slow Clover app (e.g., Register, Transactions).
  3. Select Clear Cache
  4. Restart the device

Restart your Clover device

  1. From the home screen, open Settings or select the three dots (•••) icon.
  2. Select Restart or Reboot Device.
  3. Wait for the device to power back on and reconnects automatically.
Pro tip: Restart your Clover once a day before opening your business. It helps keep your network and applications running smoothly.

Power & Battery Checks (Clover Flex / Clover Go)

  1. Ensure device is charging properly, the charging icon should appear on screen.
  2. Try another charging base or wall outlet.
  3. If not charging, inspect cable for damage or debris.
  4. A soft reset can be done by holding the power button for 15 seconds.

Perform a network reset

Important: This will remove all saved networks. Only use if device refuses to reconnect.

  1. Go to Settings → Network → Reset Network Settings.
  2. Confirm when prompted.
  3. Reconnect to your WiFi network.
