Innovation is not the same thing as disruption
To disrupt or sustain? That is the question
Too many people use the terms “innovation” and “disruption” interchangeably. However, as BroadSoft points out, the Harvard Business Review (HBR), who originated disruption theory more than 20 years ago, has updated and clarified how innovation and disruption relate to each other. Citing recent episodes in business history, HBR demonstrates how some organizations innovate in order to change the status quo, while others innovate to maintain it.
