Spotlight: Beverley Theresa

This entrepreneur shares how digital marketing can help develop and grow businesses

Tell us about yourself and your passion for the small business community.

After creating the social media offering at a digital agency, I launched full time as my own business in May 2017. Previously I had been freelancing in the evenings working with small to medium businesses who can’t afford agency pricing. As a “new” small business myself, I understand the ins and outs of marketing and the positive effect it can have, even on a limited budget. Many businesses I’ve worked with have difficulty wrapping their head around digital marketing and need that solid foundation to do it successfully and strategically. I love serving the small business community, when I see them flourish because of digital marketing, it seriously makes me so happy.

What is the most rewarding part about being an entrepreneur? What keeps you passionate and driven to succeed?

Beverley truly values the freedom that comes with being a entrepreneur in digital marketing

The most rewarding part of being an entrepreneur is the freedom that comes with being my own boss. Specifically working weird hours if I want to and being able to work from wherever I want (as long as there’s wifi!). What keeps me most passionate is knowing that I’m the right choice for businesses and knowing they see the return and increase in customers after working with me. I’m constantly learning and keeping up with all the quick changes that happen in social media marketing, transferring that knowledge to my clients and seeing them succeed is what pushes me to keep at it.

We know digital marketing can be a true key to success to developing and continuing to grow a business. For you, what are some key social media platforms or tools you suggest for small business owners?

I would definitely recommend Facebook for small business owners. The targeting you can do with Facebook is unmatched on any other social media platform. Also, I think Twitter is under utilized as it’s a more difficult platform to understand, but once you build relationships on Twitter, you have them for a lifetime.

"I still talk to the same businesses and people I’ve tweeted with since 2008, which is amazing".

What advice do you have for aspiring and prospering business owners when it comes to taking their business to the next level?

That cheesy famous quote, “If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always got.”, definitely applies to business owners. To take a business to the next level requires risk and testing. Don’t just jump into social media because you know businesses “need to be on it”, think about it strategically to save time and resources. Knowing how social media marketing will complement your current marketing is definitely a priority. Don’t be afraid of trying and learning new things.
