How to transfer contacts from your iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S9

Gain access to all of your key contacts on your new device in just three easy steps

Switching from an iPhone to a new Samsung Galaxy S9? One of the first things you'll want to do is ensure all of your important contacts make the move with you.

This is a little more complicated than moving them from one Android device to another, but not by much. All you need to do is make sure you back up your iPhone to iCloud and have Samsung's Smart Switch app installed on your new phone.

Here's how to do it.

1. On your iPhone, make sure you've backed up your data to iCloud. The steps for this vary depending on your current version of iOS. If you're using iOS 11, tap the Settings icon on the homescreen, tap your profile name (at the top of the menu), tap iCloud and then iCloud Backup. Make sure the iCloud Backup slider is set to “on” (green), then tap Back Up Now.

2. Switch to your Samsung Galaxy S9 and, if you haven't already, download the free Samsung Smart Switch app from Google Play.

3. Open Smart Switch and tap Wireless, then tap iOS. Enter your Apple ID credentials and select Sign In. Choose the content you wish to transfer – in this case, contacts – and tap Import. Your iPhone contacts should now be accessible on your Samsung Galaxy S9.
