Huawei's new P20 line of smartphones offers unique advantages for business users

A triple-lens camera and powerful AI sets these devices apart from the competition

With many current smartphones offering similar features, picking the perfect one to boost your productivity at work is no small feat. Happily, Huawei is making this decision a bit easier with its new line of P20 phones, which clearly set themselves apart from their competitors in several key ways – most notably their powerful cameras, evolving artificial intelligence (AI), and capacious batteries.

Photography for professionals

The 24-MP camera embedded at the top of the P20's screen delivers more megapixels of resolution than any other front-facing phone camera. And the dual-lens rear camera, with one 12-MP sensor dedicated to colour and a second 20-MP sensor to black-and-white, captures excellent RGB and monochrome shots – perfect for professional profile and product shots. The P20 Pro goes a step further, increasing colour-shot resolution to 40 MP and combining information from both sensors. The result: deeply detailed composite photos to rival those of digital SLR cameras.

Business-chic design

The P20 and P20 Pro's all-glass front and back make for elegant studies in industrial design; an ideal luxury item for style-conscious business owners and executives. Both sport ultra-thin top and side bezels, thanks to Huawei's use of a front camera "notch" that scoops down into the display. Factor in the P20 Pro's IP67 certification – guaranteed protection against the dust and spills found in many workplaces and job sites – and you have a phone as durable as it is beautiful.

Improved productivity

Huawei's proprietary EMUI 8.1 overlay delivers a collection of Android 8.1 upgrades designed to enhance your mobile experience. Features such as Share and Clone will prove invaluable to many business owners, allowing them to more easily access media and data on other devices, such as laptops and tablets. And Huawei's powerful AI actively analyzes how you use your phone based on time and location, then adjusts accordingly, making ready features and content before you even know you need them, allowing you to get work done faster.

Powerful and full of power

A robust Kirin 970 octa-core CPU sits inside both the P20 and P20 Pro, with the former supported by 4 GB of speedy RAM, and the latter 6 GB. They also ship with 128 GB of onboard storage; enough to satisfy most workers' mobile-archiving needs for years. All of this is powered via 3,400 mAh and 4,000 mAh lithium-ion packs in the P20 and P20 Pro, respectively. These surprisingly capacious batteries ought to supply all the energy needed to get through your work day. Note, too, that both phones support Huawei's SuperCharge fast-charging technology, meaning you can get a big charge in little time.

Don't forget about the P20 lite

Small businesses with tighter budgets may want to consider the mid-priced P20 lite, exclusive to Rogers and Fido in Canada. It forgoes frills such as the dedicated black-and-white camera (it's replaced with a 2-MP depth-sensing camera), but keeps much of what really matters for business owners and their teams, including an octa-core Kirin processor backed by 4 GB of RAM and a spacious 5.8-inch Full HD+ screen – complete with camera notch and tiny bezel. And at just 145 g, it’s easily the lightest member of the P20 family.
