Incorrect Outgoing Display Number with iMessages on Apple iPhones

Symptom

  • iMessages being sent are showing an incorrect outgoing display number.

Cause

  • iPhone has been ported from a different carrier
  • Recent number change
  • iMessage not updating with the correct number

Resolution

  1. Turn iMessage off.
    • Click Settings.
    • Select Messages.
    • Toggle iMessages to Off.
  2. Turn FaceTime off.
    • Click Settings.
    • Select FaceTime.
    • Toggle FaceTime to Off.
  3. Restart the device.
  4. Toggle both iMessage and FaceTime On.
  5. Send someone a text message to confirm if issue has been resolved.
    • If issue persists, continue to next step.
  6. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
  7. Reset the network settings.
    • Click Settings.
    • Select General.
    • Select Reset.
    • Select Reset Network Settings.
      • This will erase all saved Wi-Fi and profiles and passwords.
  8. Toggle both iMessage and FaceTime On.
  9. Send someone a text message to confirm if issue has been resolved.
