Set Up and Use Android Device Manager

The following steps explain how to configure and use Android Device Manager to locate and or reset your lost Android smartphone.

Note: These settings are general instructions only. Android™ is available on many devices and different versions exist in the market. As such, some of the names, information or settings below may vary depending on the device you have. This guide was made to provide instructions on as many devices and versions of the Android OS as possible.

Set Up and Turn On Android Device Manager

  1. Open Apps.
  2. Select Google Settings.
    • Note: this is different from the standard phone settings.
  3. Select Android Device Manager.
  4. Enable Remotely locate this device.
  5. Enable Allow remote lock and erase, if you want to have the ability to do so remotely.

Locating your Android Smartphone

  1. Sign in to the Google account associated to your Android smartphone at https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager.
  2. After successful log in, it will display the device’s approximate location on the map.
  3. To refresh the location, click on the Locate device icon on the top right.
  4. You can also perform the following actions by clicking on the respective icons:
    • Ring: enable a ringer to your device remotely to help locate the device.  
    • Lock: creates a password lock remotely to help secure your device.
    • Erase: factory resets your device remotely.
