Switch Devices Using BlackBerry Link

The following steps explain how to switch to a new smartphone using the BlackBerry Link.

Device switch from BlackBerry OS 5.x-7.x

  1. Connect your old BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
  2. Launch BlackBerry Link.
  3. If prompted for password, type the device password. Click OK.
  4. Click Transfer Device Data.
    • Blackberry Link will automatically backup all data.
  5. When prompted, connect your new BlackBerry device to the computer.
  6. Click the picture of your device when it appears.
  7. Click Next.
  8. If prompted for password, type the device password. Click OK.
  9. Type a display name for your device. This name will be displayed on BlackBerry Link.
  10. The following options are available to be selected:
    • Automatically sync new music, pictures, videos and documents when your device is connected.
    • Update the device software
  11. Click Next.
    • BlackBerry Link will automatically restore the data.
  12. Click Finish.

Device switch from BlackBerry 10.x

  1. Connect your new BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
  2. Launch BlackBerry Link.
  3. If prompted for password, type the device password. Click OK.
  4. Click Switch Devices.
  5. When prompted, connect your old BlackBerry device to the computer.
  6. Click the picture of your device when it appears.
  7. Select one of the following:
    • To transfer all data, click Transfer all supported data.Click Next.
    • To transfer specific data, click Select data to transfer.Select the data you want to transfer, click Next.
  8. When prompted, connect your new BlackBerry device to the computer.
    • BlackBerry Link will automatically restore the data.
  9. Click Finish.
