Unable to Unlock BlackBerry Device Password

  • Unable to unlock the BlackBerry device password.

  • Incorrect password
  • Software glitch
  • Broken keys

Note: if the password is entered incorrectly, the device will be forced to wipe all user data. By default there are ten attempts to enter the password. Unfortunately there is no way to reset the device password without knowing the current password.

  1. Verify that the correct password is entered.
  2. Verify that number or caps locks are not enabled, an icon will appear in the top right of the screen if either feature is enabled.
  3. Power cycle the device and attempt to enter the password.
  4. Connect the BlackBerry to the computer and launch the BlackBerry Desktop Software. Attempt to enter the device password from the computer.
    • Note: if the alt key was not held down while entering the password on the device, the password would be letters and not numbers. E.g. if the password consist of keystrokes 1-2-3-4, the password may actually be w-e-r-s.
    • Each incorrect password attempt from the BlackBerry Desktop Software will count towards the total number of attempts.
