The Quebec Assistance Measure: A measure to make it easier to help or be helped

Are you familiar with the assistance measure? Since 2022, this measure has allowed people experiencing difficulties to designate and have up to two trusted persons officially recognized to assist them with various day-to-day matters. Once recognized by the Curateur public and entered in the Public Register of Assistants, assistants may act as intermediaries between the assisted person and several product or service providers (telecommunications companies, financial institutions, government services, health professionals, etc.). They may obtain and share information, on behalf of and at the request of the assisted person, but they cannot make decisions on the person’s behalf.

The assistance measure was designed to preserve the autonomy of people experiencing difficulties and to facilitate the help their loved ones can provide in a wide range of everyday situations. We encourage you to learn more about this measure and to discuss it with your loved ones.
