Understand the features that make Rogers Xfinity TV accessible and usable for people with cognitive or learning needs.  

Rogers Xfinity Voice Remote

The Voice Remote makes it easy to search for shows and movies, change channels and volume, set recordings and more. 

Just press and hold the Mic button on the Voice Remote and use a voice command. 

  • Search for shows or movies by title, genre, actor, director and even quotes. Give a voice command such as: "Show me Tim Burton movies," "Denzel Washington," "Comedies," "Seinfeld" 
  • Update your settings by giving a voice command such as: "Turn on Closed Captioning" or "Parental Controls" 
  • Start recordings of live TV or schedule recordings for future programs by giving a voice command such as: "Start recording" or "Schedule recording"

Web Remote

The Rogers Xfinity Accessibility Web Remote lets you control your Rogers Xfinity TV from a computer or mobile device and is compatible with a wide variety of assistive technology.  

  • Search using your voice or type in commands 
  • Customize your preset voice command buttons 
  • Use as a backup if your voice remote is missing or damaged 

Sign in at Rogers Web Remote with your Rogers username or Shaw Web Remote with your username (formerly Shaw ID).


Accessibility menu

For all Rogers Xfinity TV’s accessibility features, press and hold the Mic button on the Rogers Xfinity Voice Remote and say "Accessibility." Here, you’ll find a list of all Rogers Xfinity TV’s accessibility features and settings, as well as tips on how to use them. You can also reach the Accessibility menu by pressing the B or Accessibility buttons on your Rogers Xfinity Voice Remote.

Closed captioning

Also known as subtitles, closed captioning displays the audio portion of a television program as on-screen text, including dialogue, music and sound effects. Closed captioning can be activated on Rogers Xfinity TV or any of our Digital TV services. Rogers provides all closed captioning provided by Canadian and foreign television services.


Closed captioning on Rogers Xfinity TV

Turn on closed captioning with Voice Remote

  1. Press and hold the Mic button on the Voice Remote.
  2. Say, "Captions," or "Turn on closed captioning."
  3. Release the Mic button.
  4. Subtitles, if available, will appear on any program you watch until you turn closed captioning off.


Turn on closed captioning through TV

  1. Press and hold the middle button on your remote.
  2. Use the right arrow or left arrow button to select Settings (the gear icon).
  3. Press OK on the remote.
  4. Scroll down to Accessibility Settings and press OK.
  5. From Accessibility Settings, use the arrow buttons to navigate to Closed Captioning.
  6. Press OK to toggle Closed Captioning On or Off.
  7. If turning on, visit Closed Captioning Options to select your preferred settings (font size, colour, formatting).


Turn on closed captioning for just one program

  1. While tuned to the program, press the OK button on the Voice Remote.
  2. Press the left-arrow button.
  3. Select the "CC" icon on the screen.
  4. Subtitles will appear for the duration of the program.


Closed captioning on Digital TV

Turn on closed captioning

  • If you have a High Definition set-top box: Use the Info and Settings buttons on your Rogers remote to activate closed captioning or to customize its appearance (i.e. font size and on-screen placement).
  • If you have a Standard Definition set-top box: Closed captioning needs to be turned on via your TV, not your set-top box. This can be done via your TV’s settings menu.
