About VoLTE
What is VoLTE?
VoLTE (Voice over LTE) lets you make calls over our 4G LTE network instead of the traditional 2G or 3G network.
What are the benefits of using VoLTE for calling?
VoLTE can improve your experience in several ways:
- Higher quality calls with clearer audio between compatible phones.
- Browse, stream, and use apps at LTE speeds while on your call.
- Better coverage and connectivity—faster call connections in more places as we enhance our LTE network.
- Seamless calling (no interruptions) when moving between our LTE network and WiFi.
How do I get VoLTE?
Most of our newer phones are VoLTE-capable and automatically use the feature.
If your phone isn’t VoLTE enabled or you’re having trouble using the feature, check that the following requirements have been met:
- You’re a Rogers for Business customer on an eligible plan—most plans are eligible.
- Confirm your phone's specifications support VoLTE:
- If you have an older LTE phone, update your software.
- If you have a 3G or 2G phone, you’ll need to upgrade to a VoLTE-supported LTE or 5G phone.
- Confirm you have an LTE or 5G SIM card.
- If you did not buy a Rogers device, confirm it’s compatible with the Rogers network and supports VoLTE. You can call your device manufacturer to check if it’s certified on our network.
How much does VoLTE cost?
VoLTE calls are billed as traditional voice calls and are deducted from the minutes included in your plan.
When roaming abroad, voice calls will be charged according to your roaming plan. Please visit our business travel hub for more information.
Where can I use VoLTE?
In Canada you can use VoLTE wherever you have an LTE connection on the Rogers network and most Extended Coverage (EXT) areas.
Outside of Canada, you can use VoLTE in select international destinations. Some account and device restrictions may apply.
Can I use VoLTE when roaming?
Roam Like Home
- When you’re on WiFi and calling a Canadian number, the call will appear as a domestic call and minutes will be deducted from your plan without incurring any long-distance or roaming charges.
- For calls placed to a non-Canadian number, Roam Like Home will trigger and the standard daily fee will apply.
- When leaving the WiFi network area, the call will transfer to the VoLTE network. Roam Like Home will trigger with the standard daily fee. This portion of the call will also appear as a domestic call, and minutes will be deducted from your plan.
Pay Per Use and Travel Packs
- Whether you’re on WiFi or VoLTE and calling from one roaming destination to another, your call will appear as a roaming charge and minutes will be deducted from your Travel Pack or charged as a Pay Per Use charge. You can search Pay-Per-Use rates by country.
Other things to know
- On select Android devices, you can also use ViLTE (Video over LTE) to make video calls—these calls are billed the same as traditional voice calls and don’t use data from your data bucket.
- Some manufacturers have common device names but different model numbers specific to a country, each with unique technical specifications or software. Not all models may be compatible with the Rogers network and/or VoLTE.
- Some calling plans or services may not be compatible. For example, if you have a voice-only plan or a data block, you may not be able to use VoLTE.
