FAQs
Streaming and video quality FAQs
What is the video resolution of Netflix streaming on Rogers Xfinity?
Netflix streams content to Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver and Rogers Streaming in both standard (SD) and high-definition (HD) resolution (defined as 720p or better). To receive HD streaming of Netflix programming, make sure you sign up for a service plan from Netflix that includes HD.
What plans and resolutions does Netflix offer?
Netflix currently offers three plans (Note: There's no restriction to the number of devices that can be registered to a Netflix account at any time; however, the number of screens you can watch at one time is dependent upon your Netflix plan. Each Rogers Xfinity set-top box will count as a screen).
- One Screen: Includes the ability to play one stream at a time up to the SD resolution (480p max).
- Two Screens + HD Includes the ability to play up to two concurrent streams up to the HD resolution (1080p max).
- Four Screens + UltraHD Includes the ability to play up to four concurrent streams up to the UHD 4K resolution (2160p max).
It's important to understand that like all Internet streaming, the actual resolution of the video Netflix delivers can vary, no matter what your Netflix service plan is. Netflix adjusts the resolution it delivers to achieve the best quality video based on:
- Your plan, as noted above.
- The resolution of the device you are using.
- The quality of the end-to-end network connection from Netflix's content servers through the Internet to your home through your Internet connection—it delivers the video to Rogers Xfinity set-top box.
Note: Content for Netflix on Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver and Rogers Streaming is delivered via the internal modem of the Rogers Xfinity set-top box. Using the Netflix App doesn't share bandwidth with the modem provided for your Internet service, however, it does count toward monthly Internet data limits.
To learn more about how Netflix determines the video streaming resolution it delivers, see help.netflix.com. It's important to understand that Netflix is delivered over the Internet and therefore is subject to Internet data usage policies.
How does streaming Netflix on Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver and Rogers Streaming work with the Netflix Stream Plans?
Streaming content within the Netflix App on a Rogers Xfinity set-top box will count as one of the simultaneous streams you're allowed under your specific Netflix membership plan. For example, if you're watching Netflix on two separate Rogers Xfinity set-top boxes at the same time, that counts as two streams.
Can I watch Netflix in 4K on Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver and Rogers Streaming?
Yes, 4K (UHD) content is available with Netflix on Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver and Rogers Streaming. This requires a Netflix Premium plan, a 4K television and the Rogers Xfinity set-top boxes or 4K Player (XG1v4). The HDMI port used (i.e. on your 4K TV, AV receiver and/or Soundbar) must be HDCP 2.2 compliant. You may refer to the manual included with your equipment to confirm 4K capability.
Does Rogers support Netflix Standard with ads?
Yes, Standard with ads is a 4th subscription option that offers Netflix at a lower cost and is available to Rogers and Rogers together with Shaw customers the same as other subscription tiers. A limited number of movies and TV shows aren't available due to licensing restrictions on Standard with Ads.

Why is my Netflix subscription included in my Rogers or Rogers together with Shaw bill?
When you sign up for Netflix through Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver, or Rogers Streaming, your Netflix subscription is automatically added to your Rogers or Rogers together with Shaw bill.
If you prefer to be billed directly by Netflix:
- You’ll need to cancel your current Netflix subscription through Rogers.

What happens to my Netflix subscription if I move?
It depends on how your Netflix subscription is billed:
If billed through Rogers or Rogers together with Shaw:
If your Netflix subscription was added through Rogers Xfinity TV, App TV, Streaming, StreamSaver, or Rogers Streaming, and your Rogers services are cancelled during your move, your Netflix subscription will also be cancelled at the end of your billing cycle (unless service is restored).
Once your Rogers services are active again, you’ll need to re-subscribe to Netflix through your preferred Rogers platform.
If billed directly through Netflix:
Your Netflix account remains unchanged unless you make updates directly with Netflix.
