Mobility and Millennials are changing the landscape for UC&C

The unprecedented popularity of and growing dependency on wireless has spawned the rise of the mobile worker

Mobility is a core requirement for Unified Communications and Collaboration tools. In fact, according to IDC research, more than 82% of Canadians now rely on wireless for some or all of their communications. And wireless is essential for the rising population of mobile employees, with an estimated one-third (37%) of the global workforce acting mobile in 2015. Canada's role in this is important to note, with the mobile worker population forecast to increase to 14 million employees, or 73% of the labour force, by 2018. This is up from 12.5 million in 2014.

Consider the following attitudes and attributes of Mobile Workers as a workforce:

• 70% of workers are mobile at some point (i.e. away from fixed space)
• By 2020 millennials make up nearly 50% of workforce
• 50% of millennials would sacrifice salary to work remotely

Talented, entrepreneurial and empowered by collaboration tools, these young employees are absolutely dependent on their wireless devices, crave mobility and seek the freedom to work anywhere. They also demonstrate how an untethered workforce with easy-to-use tools for anywhere-anytime access is compelling from a productivity standpoint.
