Stolen or lost devices or SIM cards

If you suspect your device or SIM card has been compromised in any way, please contact us immediately. We’ll add your device to the national list for lost or stolen mobile devices so it can’t be used on any network in Canada.

Malware

Malware is malicious software that is transmitted through the internet and can be installed on your phone or computer when you download certain apps or files, or if you visit certain websites. It lets criminals access your devices to disrupt operations or to change or steal data.

Port fraud & SIM swaps

These are two types of frauds where scammers target your personal information to impersonate you and access banking and other accounts linked to your phone. They issue requests to port (or transfer) your phone number to a different wireless service provider or request a SIM swap, so they can gain access to your phone number.

Identity theft

Identify theft takes place when someone collects or acquires another person’s personal information for criminal purposes. The information can then be used to make purchases and apply for credit cards or loans, without the victim’s consent or knowledge, usually leading to outstanding debts and negatively impacted credit.

Phishing

Phishing refers to a fake email message that tries to trick someone into unknowingly doing something that puts them at risk. This can include sharing personal information or downloading viruses, like malware or spyware.

Scam calls/Caller ID spoofing

Scam calls are a form of fraudulent activity with the goal of stealing your money or your information. Caller ID spoofing is when a caller deliberately changes the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity, so you’ll answer the call.

Employment scams

Scammers have continued to evolve their tactics so they can steal your money or your personal information. Recently, they have been creating fake job postings and posing as HR representatives while using the names of real Canadian companies like Rogers.
