Will my WiFi improve as soon as I install my pod extender?

Once installed, your pod extender will automatically test and adjust WiFi settings to reflect your home’s layout and internet usage. It may take 48 to 72 hours for this initial optimization process to be completed.

Can I use different pod extender models together?

Different pod extender models (Gen 1 and Gen 2) aren't compatible with each other. To remove a pod extender, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Rogers Xfinity app and sign in using your MyRogers or MyRogers (Shaw) username and password.
  2. Select the Connect tab.
  3. Select See Network under your WiFi network name.
  4. Select the pod you'd like to remove.
  5. Select the pencil icon.
  6. Select Remove Pod.
  7. Select Remove Pod once more on the “Are you Sure?” screen.
  8. It will take a moment to remove the pod, then select Close when the pod has been removed.

Where can pods be installed?

Keep the following in mind when installing your pod extender(s):

  • Only use pod extenders indoors.
  • The ideal spot for your pod extender is halfway between your gateway modem and the WiFi problem area.
  • Avoid placing your pod extender in the WiFi problem area. Don’t place it near other pod extenders, metal objects, speakers, mirrored surfaces and appliances that can interfere with the WiFi signal.
  • Avoid areas with moisture such as directly next to a window or door (where the pod extender might be exposed to rain or condensation), near a bathtub, sink or washing machine.
  • Don’t place your pod extender inside or behind cabinets and furniture.
  • If you have additional pod extenders, try moving or removing them. Each pod extender should connect to the Gateway rather than another pod. If too many pod extenders are close together, your device may have difficulty choosing which one is best, resulting in lag or slow internet.
  • Avoid placing your pod extender close to heat sources such as a radiator, fireplace, heater or stove.
  • Pod extenders shouldn't be plugged into extension cords or wall outlets connected to a switch which can be accidentally turned off.

What speed can I expect when connected to a pod extender?

While the total speed to your home for all your connected devices is delivered through the modem and any pod extenders all working together, first generation Rogers Xfinity WiFi Boost Pod extenders support download speeds of up to 200 Mbps per pod in those hard-to-reach places. The second-generation model supports download speeds of up to 600 Mbps per pod. Regardless of which model you use, each pod extender can support a wide range of online activities for the devices connected to the pod extender.

For example, 25 Mbps per device is the standard recommended speed for smooth and reliable 4K video streaming. Video streaming at lower resolution quality and other activities such as surfing, or emails will require much less speed per device.

Keep in mind, factors such as building materials in your home and the capabilities of your device--plus the placement of your Rogers Xfinity Gateway and pod extenders--also affect WiFi speed and performance.

How do I connect a device to my Rogers Xfinity WiFi Boost Pod extender?

Simply connect your device to your home WiFi network and you’ll automatically be routed through the best WiFi access points based on real-time conditions. Depending on where other devices are connected in your home and sources of signal interference, the best connection at the time may not be the closest pod extender, but may be directly to your Rogers Xfinity Gateway itself.
