The following instructions will help you set up your Rogers Yahoo! email account for use with Mail for macOS 10.11 or higher.
Rogers recommends you set up with IMAP as it will allow you to access your email from webmail and multiple devices. While POP is supported for the users that require it, an App Password is needed to make it work.
Add an account using IMAP
- Click Mail.
- Click Preferences.
- Click Accounts.
- Click the Plus (+) icon located on the bottom right-hand corner of the preferences window.
- In the Add Account screen, select Yahoo! and click Continue.
- Enter your full Rogers email address and click Next.
- Enter your email account password and click Sign In
- Once Mail has finished authenticating the account, click Done.
- Send a test email to make sure the settings are correct and the email is working.
Add an account using POP
An App Password is needed to make these settings work.
Generate an App Password for POP in the Member Centre
- Go to the sign in page.
- Enter the Rogers Yahoo! email address and password for the account you’d like to create an App Password for. Select Next.
- Mobile: Select the menu icon in the top-left corner, then Account Information.
Desktop: Select Account Information in the top-right corner of your browser window.
- Select Authorized Applications.
- In the Name your password field, label your App Password with the name of the mail client it’s for, then select Generate.
- Write down the randomly generated app password or copy it to your clipboard.
- Enter the password in Mail using the instructions below. When you’re finished, select Done on the popup.
In Mail
- Click Mail.
- Click Preferences.
- Click Accounts.
- In the Accounts window, click the Plus (+) icon located at the bottom-left corner to add an account.
- In the Add Account window enter the following:
- Full Name: the name displayed to the email recipient.
- Email Address: enter the full email address.
- Password: the App Password you created.
- Before you click continue, hold the Option key and click Continue to turn on manual settings.
- On the Incoming Mail Server window, enter the following:
- Account Type: select POP from the drop down menu.
- Description: may be any descriptive text.
- Incoming Mail Server: pop.broadband.rogers.com
- Username: full Rogers email address.
- Password: the App Password you created.
- Click Continue.
- On the Incoming Mail Security window, Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) should be selected. Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu and click Continue.
- On the Outgoing Mail Server window enter the following:
- Description: for naming purposes only (optional).
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.broadband.rogers.com.
- Use Only This Server: typically used for multiple accounts using multiple outgoing mail servers (optional).
- Use Authentication: Selected.
- User Name: Enter the full email address.
- Password: the App Password you created.
- Click Continue.
- In the Outgoing Mail Security window, select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu. Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) should be selected.
- Click Continue.
- Review all the information and click on Create to create the email account. Once that is done you will be taken back to the Accounts Screen.
Modify an existing POP account to use Rogers Yahoo! email servers
An App Password is needed to make these settings work.
- Click Mail from the menu bar and then select Preferences from the list. Click Accounts.
- In the Accounts window, check the following:
- Email Address: enter the full email address.
- Incoming Mail Server: pop.broadband.rogers.com
- User Name: enter the full email address.
- Password: the App Password you created.
- Click the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down and select Edit Server List.
- In the Account Information window, confirm that the Server Name is smtp.broadband.rogers.com
- Click Advanced.
- In the Advanced window, check the following:
- Use custom port: 465
- Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): should be checked.
- Authentication: Password.
- User Name: full email address.
- Password: the App Password you created.
- Click Ok.
- In the Accounts window, click on the Advanced tab.
- In the Advanced window, check the following:
- Remove copy from server after retrieving a message: If this is checked, email will be backed up on webmail which can be accessed at the Rogers Yahoo! website.
- Port: 995
- Use SSL: Checked.
- Authentication: Password
- Close the Preferences window and send a test email to make sure the settings are correct and the email is working.
