How do Parental Controls for Ignite WiFi Hub work?

These Parental Controls help to reduce the risk of accessing content generally deemed to be inappropriate while connected to your Ignite WiFi network or via Ethernet.

Attempts to access inappropriate content on devices assigned to an Ignite WiFi Hub profile with Parental Controls turned on will be redirected to a block page. In the case of secure (https) websites or mobile apps, the block page may not be displayed, but access is still prevented.

Note: Parental Controls for Ignite WiFi Hub will not block inappropriate content available through your Ignite TVTM service. Learn more about Parental Controls on Ignite TV.

What content is blocked by Parental Controls?

While blocking of inappropriate websites and applications can never be guaranteed and practicing online safety is always recommended, content deemed as inappropriate could potentially include profanity, sexual content, violence, child abuse, software piracy, copyright theft, malware, spyware, depictions of alcohol, tobacco, weapons, gambling or drug use.

Note: In addition to the Parental Controls option for each profile, Ignite WiFi Hub also offers Advanced Security for all devices connected to your home network in order to reduce the risk of accessing known sources of malware, spyware and phishing. What are the protective settings for Google, Bing and YouTube that are enabled with Parental Controls?

After activating Parental Controls on Ignite WiFi Hub, the following protective search settings will be automatically turned on:

Google: SafeSearch on

Bing: SafeSearch Strict

YouTube: Restricted Mode on

These services’ protective settings help limit exposure to potentially explicit content for the associated websites and apps.

What criteria does the Parental Controls feature for Ignite WiFi Hub use to determine if content is appropriate to access?

Rogers has engaged a third-party vendor who maintains a database that maps online content to a set of over 400 categories such as social media, automotive, gambling, violence, adult content, etc. Based on industry standards, best practices and experience, our vendor has recommended which categories are generally deemed appropriate for all ages.

Content mapping is updated regularly by the vendor to help ensure a comprehensive list is maintained.

Once I turn on Parental Controls for Ignite WiFi Hub, will content immediately be blocked?

Parental Controls should be enabled fairly quickly, depending on the device and its caching. Content that was already accessed on a device may be cached and, therefore, may still be accessible on that device for up to 24 hours.

Do Parental Controls for Ignite WiFi Hub guarantee that access to all inappropriate content will be blocked?

Parental Controls are intended to help prevent devices from accessing inappropriate online content; however, they are not guaranteed to block access to all inappropriate sites and applications. Practicing online safety is always recommended.
