Set Up Active Time Limits with Ignite HomeConnect

Use Ignite HomeConnectTM to keep track of your family’s internet usage by setting up Active Time Limits. Once the daily limit you set is reached by a user, all their devices will automatically be paused from home WiFi access for the rest of the day. You’ll also receive a notification (sent to the in-app Notifications Centre) when the user is approaching their Active Time Limit.


Ignite HomeConnect is available exclusively for Rogers Internet customers with the Ignite WiFi Gateway modem. Not sure if this is your modem? Check under “Internet” on your MyRogers account.

  1. Open the Ignite HomeConnect app and sign in using your MyRogers username and password. 
  2. Select WiFi.
  3.  Select Manage People.
  4. Select the user profile to which you want to apply Active Time Limits.
    • If you want to apply limits to a new profile, select the Plus icon + or Add a person and follow the prompts.
  5. Select the Settings icon  at the top right of the screen to access customization options. The options will only appear if you have devices assigned to your user profile.
  6. Select Active Time Limit.
  7. Select Weekdays or Weekends.
    • Weekdays enables the alerts and limits from Monday to Friday.
    • Weekends enables the alerts and limits on Saturday and Sunday.
  8. Adjust the active time bar to set the point at which you’d like to receive an alert. This will refresh at 12 a.m. each designated day.
  9. If you’d like to automatically pause the user’s devices from accessing home WiFi for the rest of the day after the limit is reached, toggle the option to the On position.
  10. Select Apply Changes to confirm, and Close.

Note: If your profile includes Ignite EntertainmentTM boxes, they cannot be paused using Active Time Limits so your service is not interrupted.

What activity counts towards “active time”?

Active Time Limits apply to activity on the home WiFi network by any device assigned to the specified user profile, including streaming, surfing, gaming, downloading and more. The active time reflects the overall user profile regardless of how many devices are active at the same time.

Considerations to keep in mind:

  • Internet access for devices on the user profile will not be automatically paused by an Active Time Limit unless you toggle the option to the On position.
  • Ignite Entertainment boxes cannot be paused using Active Time Limits.
  • Devices which have applications running in the background, may count towards active time. For example, while an automated status check text message with no attachment would likely not be considered as active time, a device downloading an update overnight likely would. Some devices, like Chromecast, continuously download data, and are not recommended to be assigned to profiles with an Active Time Limit.
  • Access using cellular data, a public WiFi hotspot or a WiFi network other than your home WiFi network will not count towards active time.
