Get back to the entertainment you love. If your set-top box won't turn on, we have simple solutions to fix it. The most common causes are power connection issues, service outages, remote control problems, incorrect TV inputs or gateway restart issues. Work through these steps to get your household connected again.
Check for a service outage
If more than one TV is affected, there may be a network outage in your area. Visit Network Help & Outages to see if there are any active service issues before continuing.
Check your power connections
Make sure everything is properly plugged in and receiving power.
- Confirm your TV is plugged in and turned on.
- Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to both the back of your Rogers Xfinity set-top box and the wall outlet.
- If you use a power bar, try plugging the set-top box directly into a wall outlet instead. Some power bars have a primary port that cuts power to everything else when the primary device turns off.
- If the box still won't turn on, try a different wall outlet. If it powers on from the new outlet, there may be a problem with the original outlet. We recommend contacting a local electrician to have it inspected.
- Check your home's breaker panel. If the breaker for that outlet has tripped, flip it back to the On position and try again.
- Avoid outlets controlled by a wall switch, as these can get accidentally switched off.
Restart your set-top box
Restarting your set-top box can fix many connection issues.
- Power off your set-top box.
- Remove the power cable from the back of the unit.
- Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
- Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cable.
- Wait up to 2 minutes for the set-top box to fully reboot.
- Press the power button on the front of your set-top box to turn it on.
Your guide listings may show "To be announced" for up to one hour after a restart. Your guide information will return automatically.
Check your remote control
Your remote may need fresh batteries or a reprogram.
- Check the batteries. Point your Rogers Xfinity Voice remote at the box and press any button. If the LED at the top of the remote doesn't light up, replace the batteries and try again.
- If the set-top box still won't respond, your remote may have become unpaired. Follow the Rogers Xfinity Voice Remote programming guide to re-pair it.
Check the HDMI cable and TV input
Make sure both ends of the HDMI cable connecting your Rogers Xfinity set-top box to your TV are firmly plugged in. A loose connection is often the cause of a missing picture.
- Check your HDMI cable connection. Firmly plug both ends of the HDMI cable into your TV and into the back of your Rogers Xfinity set-top box. Take note of which HDMI port the cable is connected to on your TV (for example, HDMI 2).
- Switch to the correct TV input. Use the TV Input button on your Rogers Xfinity Voice Remote, or the Input button on your TV remote, to switch to the HDMI input that matches the port your cable is connected to.
- Check that your TV is on and plugged in. If switching inputs doesn't resolve the issue, confirm your TV is turned on and plugged in securely.
Turn off your TV dynamic light sensor
Some TVs have a built-in light sensor that can interfere with your Rogers remote signal. Follow these steps to check and turn it off.
- Turn your TV off using the power button on the TV itself.
- With the TV still off, use your Rogers remote to turn on your set-top box. If it does, your TV light sensor may be the cause.
- Turn on your TV and open your TV settings with your TV remote.
- Find and turn off the light sensor or ambient light sensor feature. Check your TV manual or the manufacturer's website for instructions specific to your TV model.
