Inspired by the timeless beer gardens of Austria and rooted in the heart of Ottawa, Braumeister offers a unique experience for beer lovers seeking more than just a pint.
The idea for Braumeister Brewing Co. was born in December 2013, in the legendary Augustiner Bräu beer garden in Austria. Founder Rohit, then a high school science teacher abroad, found himself captivated by the crisp beers, welcoming atmosphere, and the communal spirit of the garden. It was a place where long tables under chestnut trees turned strangers into friends, and the noise of the city faded behind stone walls.
When Rohit’s parents visited, they too were enchanted by the experience—so much so that they returned the next night. They saw something familiar in the warmth of the beer garden, something distinctly Canadian. Yet, they lamented, nothing quite like it existed back home in Ottawa. And so, the seed for Braumeister Brewing Co. was planted.
A Family Affair with a European Soul
Returning to Ottawa, Rohit set out to recreate the magic of Austria’s beer gardens. In 2018, Braumeister Brewing Co. opened its doors as a father-and-son-owned brewery, bringing Bavarian tradition to the Nation’s Capital. The brew team—also a father-and-son duo—has been with the company since day one, embodying the familial spirit that defines Braumeister.
In 2021, the brewery expanded with a second location in Hintonburg, a spacious bierhalle and restaurant that seats 100 indoors and over 80 on the patio. With a European kitchen complementing the beer selection, it’s a destination for those seeking an authentic taste of Bavaria.

Braumeister has brewed over 30 distinct styles, each crafted with only the four essential ingredients: water, yeast, malt, and hops. All beers are naturally carbonated, and the brewery prides itself on traditional brewing practices—no additives, no shortcuts.
At any given time, Braumeister offers just four styles, focusing on quality over quantity. Their flagship beers, a Märzen and a Helles, have been brewed since day one and have earned recognition, including an Ontario Brewing Award.
