5G Migration FAQs

From now until the end of October 2023, we are upgrading all Rogers customers on 4G and LTE voice and data and data-only plans to 5G at no extra cost. There’s no action required by you. Continue to use your device as you normally would.

Note: if you have a 3G data-only or 3G voice and data plan you will be upgraded to the 5G network later. We will let you know once you’ve been upgraded, until then continue to use your phone as you always do.

How will I know when my device has been upgraded to 5G?

To get the benefits of our 5G network, you will need a 5G compatible device. If you have one, you will see a 5G network icon when your device is in a 5G coverage area. Learn more about our 5G network.

Devices that are not 5G compatible will continue to work on our 4G network. Upgrade to a 5G compatible device to access the full benefits of 5G.

Is 5G faster than 4G?

With 5G, you will have less buffering and lagging and stay connected, even in congested areas. If your current plan has no limits on speed, you will also have access to faster speeds than what you had on the 4G network.

If your current plan has a limit on speed, this same speed will carry over when you are on the 5G network. For example, if your current plan is capped at up to 150Mbps, then you will be capped at up to 150Mbps when you are on the 5G network.

Speed and signal strength will vary based on the device you are using, settings, network availability and capacity, traffic management practices, customer’s equipment, topography and environmental conditions.

What happens if I am outside a 5G coverage area?

Your device will connect to our 4G or LTE networks where coverage is available.

Do I need a 5G SIM card to access the 5G network?

While you can use a 4G SIM, switching to a 5G SIM will ensure future access to new technology. You can purchase a new SIM card at any of our Rogers stores.

Will I see a change to my monthly bill?

There will be no change to how much you pay each month. Starting December 1, 2023, we might update your plan name and details on your bill to show your access to the 5G network.

I have a 5G compatible device, why don’t I already have access to the Rogers 5G network?

Rogers 3G and 4G mobile plans did not yet include access to the 5G network. We are upgrading our 4 plans to include this access by the end of October 2023.
